MOGUL . BUILD ME A HUNCHBACK.2008


Mogul is a stoner/desert rock band from Belgium and was formed in 2001. Before this debut full-length they have released one EP and some demos and won several music competitions in their homeland. Build Me a Hunchback rocks very nicely, and the band definitely know in every aspect what they are doing. Their stuff might not be that original, but who cares as long as everything works. The tracks on the album remind me for example of Monster Magnet, Kyuss, Unida and (especially the song ”Narrow Shoes”) QOTSA. “Genie 18” gets close to grunge, although the slower, atmospheric part sounds a bit of Colour Haze.

I guess my favorites are the little more original, hypnotic instrumental “Arlett” that also has some psychedelic effects and the tightly rocking, Monster Magnet styled “Sidekick”. If heavy stoner/desert rock is your thing, I’m sure you should check this band out.
